This week we’re going to look at the life of Joseph as an example to find Hope Rising When You’re Not Happy With the Hand You’re Dealt.

When the Speed of Life is Out of Control

Callous God

Scripture(s): 1 Peter 1:6-7 (NLT) There are those times when believing in God seems so difficult because we pray and wonder why our prayers are not answered.  We see and experience suffering and tragedy; yet, wonder where God is and why does he tolerate suffering.  How do we make sense of all this?  So often we want to trust and believe in God but when the aforementioned things happen we often doubt God cares or even if he is there…

Tingly All Over

Party Pooper

In week #2, we are going to look at our focus when God is not very fun. Many want to believe in God, but I don’t want to be a boring, stick-in-the-mud. To be a follower of Christ, there seems to be so many do’s and don’ts and rules and regulations. If we are really honest, many Christians are just not very likable. They seemed to be hypocritical, judgmental and holier-than-thou, often saying one thing and then something the complete opposite. In this second week of the God Didn’t, I Can’t series, look at how some often have a desire to believe in God but I can’t because God is such a Party Pooper.

This week, we look at Rebekah, a strong “dog” of faith and we ask ourselves, what do you do when someone needs or asks for help? Are you generous or are you focussed on something else.

Elisha

In this series we’ll look several of the “BIG DOGS” in the Bible, and how they lived in amazing ways, did incredible things for God.  What if, in our life’s race, we could do on lap around the track with one of these BIG DOGS of faith and what would they say to us that could keep us going.

Those Hypocritical Ones

In our journey in life, how do we live with them, love them, be there for them and survive the influence they have on our lives yet, encourage and strengthen them to not be that way, but become who they can be in Christ. What about us? What if we are or are becoming “those hypocritical people” how can we truly become who Christ calls us us to be in Him.

Those Manipulating Ones

In our journey in life, how do we live with them, love them, be there for them and survive the influence they have on our lives yet, encourage and strengthen them to not be that way, but become who they can be in Christ. Those Unforgiving Ones

In week #2 of the series, we will look at those individuals in our lives that are those who cannot remember birthdays and anniversaries, but they can remember when you said “that thing” to them, forgot their birthday or anniversary or just said something they did not agree with. We are strongly reminded that nothing, absolutely nothing can separate us from the love of Christ Jesus. We further recognize that in joy of the Lord we find strength. In this week #4 of the Perspective series we will look at ourselves to find out if I’ve Got Joy, Joy Joy, Joy.

See Saw

Look! Do you see that? Right there! It’ looks like… It is always interesting how two people looking at the same thing will see things very differently. What if what we are currently seeing can is based in our experience. What if we can see things differently, through the eyes of the Apostle Paul as week look at this in week #3 of the Perspective series: See Saw.

Think Again

I have always enjoyed and found fascinating when we look at something from one viewpoint and then all of a sudden a “light bulb” goes off and we see it at a completely different way. What, Why? Why, What?

In week 1 of our series, we will look at how there are times in life when you are in a place where you don’t understand, you don’t see clearly and you just don’t like it. During these times, even though you can’t necessarily see evidence of it — God is there and is very active in the midst of it all. What do we need to do? We need to learn to look through the circumstances and you can com to realize that God may have a purpose in the middle of all when we learn the power of Perspective.

The question resides, do you Have the Stones to seek after and accomplish what God has called you to be and do.

Power of 1

We live in a time when one seems like such a small amount. One voice, one cry, one hope. As a matter of fact, the Canadian government has taken their pennies out of circulation and rumors are the U.S. government is also considering taking the Lincoln penny out of circulation as well.

Remember the commercial for Calgon? “Calgon, take me away!” Well, not many of us have Calgon moments in our lives. According to the a study by the Bureau of Labor statistics released in 2010, in 1999, more than 25 million Americans – 20.5 % of the total workforce – reported that they worked at least 49 hours a week, and 11 million…

Apps for Life

James 1:22-25 Apps, they are everywhere, billions of downloads for our phones, computers, tablets, etc. Wouldn’t be neat if we could just download apps that help us deal with those areas of life we don’t like or feel are consistent with our life’s journey? Well, the Bible contains numerous apps to help us navigate throughout life. Join us for the next several weeks in this series, as we download the right apps to make life complete.

Looking Forward

Last week we spoke about what was behind us and this week we will pick up and look forward to what God is calling us to do in 2013.

Looking Back

This time of year as we begin to face a New Year, we cannot help but face looking in the rearview mirrors of our lives at those areas we stumbled in order that we may grow. Water to Wine

John 2:1-11 The world is full of change & that can often be a trying time. Jesus first recorded miracle at the wedding of Cana was exactly that, one of changing – water into wine. What can we learn from this unusual account about how our lives change & are shape in to something with incredible value when Jesus acts in our lives.

Hopelessly Lost, Lost in Hope

There are those weeks and times where life throws all stuff at you that is not fun. During those times we can get hopelessly or we can get lost in the hope of Christ. This week we focus on Paul’s letter to the Romans and how we need to get lost.

Should we care?

Intimacy With God

This week we are going to focus on intimacy/closeness with God asking the question: Is it even possible to get close to God?

Running for Gold

The Olympics teaches us so much and it also presents a way to teach all of us the importance that we are running the ‘race of life’ in which we need to go for the gold! On your mark…get set…

Stirred Up

This week in the Refreshed sermon series, we will look at how what stirs us up and how God can stir us up even if we do not “feel” like it and begin to understand what it means to live beyond how we feel.

Refreshed Kingdom

This week we will talk about being refreshed in the Kingdom (Kingdom of God). How can we survive “burn out” in God’s Kingdom?

Refreshed

How can we be renewed, refreshed in the amazing presence of God which at times seems to drain more than fulfill. Yet, Jesus says, “Come to me you who are weary and I’ll give you rest.

All In

The fact is they are not willing, do not desire, or just won’t go all in! Much of our journey with the Lord finds us scooping out handfuls of God to dampen “the heat”; however, are we willing to go All In for the Lord.

Transformed Strength

This week as we stare at the 4th of July, we look back at men and women who dedicated their lives to a cause greater than themselves. George Washington himself recognized this saying, “Make sure you are doing what God wants you to do–then do it with all your strength.” If we are not, we need to transformed strength.

Sleeping in the Storm

Regardless of how the weather is outside, in the winter we fill our homes and automobiles with heat and in the summer with A/C we live weatherless lives. Often we do the same when it comes to life. We try to live lives of “weatherlessly” but eventually the storms come — how to we react and survive the storms.

The Small Things

Now, that I am a father, too. It’s the small things that I want my children to learn and the small things that help shape the large things in life. It’s no different with God, the small things matter to Him. Let’s celebrate Father’s Day with a focus on the small things.

Spirit BBQ

This week we remember. We remember those who paid the ultimate cost for serving their country and we remember the day God sent the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.

The Streets

Christianity, these modern “Radicals” seem to be normal compared to what Christ calls disciples to live out. In this message, we look at how we can, in this modern day, be committed to take Jesus to The Streets?

Do you ever feel dried out? Like you were once a “plum” filled up with faith and now you are a “prune?” Some may wonder, will I ever recapture that vibrant part of my faith walk?

In Case of Emergency

Where’s Barnabas Now?

This week we look at the active ministry of Barnabas and Saul, specifically the type of person Barnabas was and how the church grew in amazing ways through his commitment and devotion to God and others and how the church today could use a few more Barnabas’ in its ranks today.

A Common Vision

The early days of the church in Acts found a struggle between who was welcomed in the church or those that were “chosen” & “holy” vs. “common.” The message of Christ is just that, God taking the normal, common, ordinary and empowering and using the normal in extraordinary ways.

Blinded by the Light

Probably one of the most pivotal points in the history of Christianity is found within Acts chapter 9: the conversion of Saul. This man’s conversion shifted his life purpose, expanded the church, and forever impacted Christianity and the world. What can we learn about being heading in the “wrong” direction and Christ redirecting our plans to his will and purpose.

Scattered Will

In this week of the En Fuego series, we look at the death of the first Christian martyr, Stephen and how his death, and the events surrounding it, and how God used the suffering, persecution and scattering of the church brought the will of God for ministry.

If It’s of God…

With what seems a struggle between modern culture and Christian discipleship, we must ponder of our service and our lifestyle, “If it is of God…”

Shaken Solace

What is it that makes some generous and others not? In this section of Acts we see the church growing and shifting in growth but also a challenge to be genuine in their faith.

Lame Christianity

Do you want Jesus with that?

So often we want the quick fix and the easy thing so much that we don’t even have to get out of are cars. In some ways, Christianity has become drive-thru rather than what Christ intended for His church.

Friendships

In week 2 of the UnStuck series, we will look at some of the most important areas that help us succeed in life or drag us down like a lifeboat hooked to the Titantic. Friendships are part of God’s plan and we all realize that Jesus and the early church always sent people out in pairs.

Faith

In week 1 we will look at the Apostle Peter and how he was stuck in his faith and how he became unstuck.

At Ground Zero

As we approach this weekend, we look to the 10 year anniversary of 9/11, we are reminded of the events that occurred that changed our world as we knew it. In addition, for Haven Church, we look to this week as Commitment Sunday as we step forward as a church to a new phase of ministry.

The Explained Life

Have you ever said or heard the statements that begin with, “If only I had….” or “I can just get….” It seems we so often live in lives so dependent on chance and wishful thinking rather than living full, happy lives not based on conditions or occurrences. In this sermon we will balance this with Paul’s statements in Philippians 4 focussing on contentment.

The Abrasive Christ

Yes, we pass things onto our spouse, children, grandchildren, friends, etc. More importantly, what is our legacy for God that we will leave for the generations behind us, so they can know Jesus?

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Are you happy or sad, rested or excited? In this sermon series, Mirrors, we will look into several areas of self-evaluation when we look into the mirror to see those blemishes in our relationship with Christ.

Elephants & Skeletons

So often we sing, read scripture, hear a message; yet, still may be experiencing by juggling, hiding and ignoring the things that keep us from salvation & revival in a freeing relationship with Christ.

End of the World? Does it Matter?

In this second week of the Plastic Jesus sermon series, we will talk about should it matter if the end of the world comes for those who love Christ? And how does our Plastic Jesus fit into our End of the World Bucket Lists!

In this account in Genesis 29, we will see how Jacob’s journey for love did not turn out to be as easy as he thought and analyze the example how we need to be willing to be equally persistent in our quest in the “I love ewe” and not get sidetracked by “having a cow” in our relationship with our first love.

Idiots for Christ

Ever had someone call you an idiot? Or, have you been called an idiot yourself? What about an idiot for Christ? In this sermon discover how God wants, desires and calls those who really want to be idiots for Him

Losing Heart

At times in life, we all have goals, dreams and hopes and we believe that they are ways to achieve contentment and happiness. However, most of the time we find out we are left unfulfilled and even more disheartened then before. How can we quit losing heart in the world today? How can we hear God in the midst of our broken dreams?

Kicking Your Donkey

This sermon focuses on a guy named Balaam and long before Shrek, he had a talking donkey. Have you ever asked God for an answer? Then you get an answer but really want to do something else so you do what you want and when it goes bad you beat up those dear to you? Why do we do that? What is God’s response? What does a talking donkey have to do with it all?
