An unknown author penned a song that Paul Newman brought attention to in the movie, Cool Hand Luke, called Plastic Jesus. The words of the song say, “Well, I don’t care if it rains or freezes, long as I have my plastic Jesus riding on the dashboard of my car. Through all trials and tribulations, we will travel every nation, with my plastic Jesus I’ll go far.” What is it that causes us to take God’s Son, Savior of the world, Jesus, and mold him to a plastic bobble head that sits on the dashboard of our cars? Even though we may not have a physical plastic Jesus, we still attempt mold Jesus into our ways, our thoughts, our feelings, and most of all our boxes. In this series, we will look at these areas and see how we can break the plastic Jesus mold for the real Jesus.
